Kanye West’s new album, Jesus Is King, was supposed to drop this past weekend, and when it didn’t fans have been wondering why that was. We’re now learning though that the musician is planning on releasing an IMAX film of the same name to coincide with the album’s launch. Perhaps West has decided to release both on the same day. If that’s the case, fans will now have to wait until October 25th, when the film is set to be launched.
Jesus Is King was filmed over the summer, with the intention of bringing West’s famous Sunday Service to fans across the globe. It was filmed in the Roden Crater, which is a never-before-seen art installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert created by artist James Turrell. The film will feature songs from both the new album, as well as the songs in the gospel tradition.
Over the weekend screened a sneak peek of the film at the listening parties he was hosting for his new album. On Friday that was at Detroit’s Fox Theatre and on Sunday it was held at the Auditorium Theatre of Chicago’s Roosevelt University.
While no official word has been given as to when the new album will be released, you need to remember, West is a showman, and it wouldn’t be at all surprising if he waiting to release both the Imax film and the new album at the same time. Which means fans will have just under a month to wait.
